12&u B&D Radcliffe 5 - 7 Warrington

12&U B&D League Radcliffe 5 – 7 Warrington

B&D League

After a 10 minute rest between matches, gameplay resumed, this time playing for league points and there were plenty of goals on both sides in the first half.

Radcliffe scored before the first minute was out, we equalised, then took the lead. Radcliffe drew level then added one more. We equalised, then they put another in and we matched it finishing 4-4 before half time.

2nd half was more subdued with fewer goals but still very much ‘tit-for-tat’  - Warrington got the first in just under one minute, then Radcliffe scored about a minute later. A dry spell followed with no goals for around 31/2 minutes, then Warrington scored taking it to 6-5.  With time running out Warrington were keen to hold onto their lead and switched to defensive mode closing down several Radcliffe attempts on goal. Warrington showed some excellent defensive work then an opportunity opened up and Warrington took advantage scoring another. More defensive work followed as we went in to the last minute and we held Radcliffe off to win the game 7-5

Goals from Marcus (6) and Louis (1)

In summary, we played two very close and similarly paced matches, and succeeded through hard work and determination. Evie and James both did some great defending and goalkeeping, despite not playing in goal usually.

Joe got stuck in playing from the centre forward, and Sam is shaping up to be a formidable defender with a powerful arm. Special mention goes to Lilly who must have been the smallest in the pool, but demonstrated some fierce attacking and looked like a veteran player with her recently acquired black eye.

12&u B&D Cup Radcliffe 6 - 7 Warrington

12&U B&D Cup Radcliffe 6 – 7 Warrington

B&D Cup

Warrington 12&U enjoyed their first taste of victory this season beating Radcliffe in a well deserved double header, competing in the B&D League and Cup.

Warrington were outnumbered with Radcliffe fielding 10 to Warrington’s 7 players. Tom, our usual Goalie, was out of action with an injury so Warrington rotated Goalies at half time, with James, Sam and Evie all having a go.

The cup game was played first and after a few minutes Radcliffe got the opening goal closely followed by an equaliser from Warrington. Radcliffe pulled ahead again shortly afterwards, then Warrington balanced the scores and banged another one in to finish 3-2 up in the first half.

Warrington started the second half with a goal just after one minute, then Radcliffe scored two in quick succession. We  grabbed another then Radcliffe took two more and a 6-5 lead. A minute later we scored again, then scored another to pull ahead, and Radcliffe failed to equalise before the final whistle.

It was a tight game throughout.

Seniors B&D Lancaster 13 - 3 Warrington

Warrington made the trip up to Lancaster to play their second game of the B&D league. The strength of this league once again showed as Warrington were punished on the break by a strong, youthful Lancaster side. Warrington defended well but squnadered a lot of chances. Special mention to Dan and Adam who both played extremely well against tough opposition. Peter was again superb in goal and David Price sacrificed a seat at some boring 4-3 Liverpool win on the same night. Southport in the L&D then Radcliffe in the B&D as the fixtures come thick and fast.

A great performance by Warrington to win the Liverpool and District 14 & Under Cup.

Senior Ladies L&D Tournament

Warrington entered a newly formed ladies team into the Liverpool & District tournament at the weekend. The team was a mixture of experienced past players and junior girls. It was great to see the return of Warrington members giving their time back to the club and supporting the younger girls. The team included ex Olympian Hazel Musgrove and GB player Courtney Dean. Six of the ten Warrington players were also competing at 16&u. It was their first time playing together and they all did extremely well. One player’s car would not start on the morning of the tournament which meant we were without our goalie and another experienced player.

Liverpool vs Warrington

Hazel volunteered to go in goal. Warrington got off to a flying start and scored first with a well taken goal from Molly. Liverpool grew into the game after that and took a 5-1 lead into the second half. Hazel switched out of goals and immediatetly made an impact. Abbey scored a great goal on the breakaway and then Hazel added to Warrington’s total to pull it back to 5-3. Unfortunately Liverpool scored again to make it 6-3 final score. A credibel performance against an experienced Liverpool side.

Warrington vs Birkenhead

Birkenhead pulled out of the tournament at the last minute which meant the Birkenhead team was made up of a mix of ex Liverpool City players. This turned out to be a very strong side and although Warrington played well they lost the game 1-8. The only goal coming from an excellent shot by Emily B.

A superb first outing for the girls and hopefully the start of a regular girls team with competitions to look forward to in 2016.
