Warrington Swimming & Water Polo Club Academy

Helping young swimmers make the transition from lessons to club swimming.

The Warrington Swimming & Water Polo Club Academy has been specifically designed to bridge the gap between traditional learn-to-swim programmes and competitive club swimming. Our aim is to help children develop their swimming skills, confidence, fitness and water safety in a fun, supportive club environment before progressing into our main swimming squads.

The Academy is led by Denise Grehan (Academy Lead) and supported by a team of dedicated volunteers, all of whom hold Swim England Level 1 or Level 2 Teaching Qualifications.

Who Can Join?

Our Academy is not a traditional learn-to-swim programme. To ensure swimmers are able to participate safely and benefit from the sessions, we only accept children who have already achieved:

  • Swim England Stage 4 or above

  • Or an equivalent level from another recognised swimming provider

Unfortunately, we cannot accept children below Stage 4 and we are unable to accommodate swimmers with no prior swimming experience.

Training Sessions

Academy swimmers will be invited to attend two designated sessions per week from the following programme:

Tuesday: 7:00pm - 7:45pm (Sankey)
Friday: 7:00pm - 7:45pm (Sankey)
Sunday: 8:00am - 8:45am (Orford)

As swimmers progress through the stages, they will be offered transition opportunities in the main pool, helping them prepare for club swimming and the next stage of their development within the club.

Joining the Waiting List

The Academy is extremely popular and currently has a waiting list of approximately 2-3 months.

If you are interested in joining, please complete our register you interest using our form and ensure you clearly state your child's current swimming stage or equivalent level. This information helps us assess eligibility and manage places effectively.

This form will be reviewed by our Academy Lead and we will invite you to a trial normally during the Friday session.
