Women - Northern League Round 1

Women’s Northern League 21st May 2016
With a small squad of eight players, Warrington played really well in their first outing this season. It was really good that some of the younger team members Eleanor and Emily were able to contribute to an excellent team performance and gain valuable experience.
In the first match Warrington played Sunderland, in a closely fought game with Hazel and Emma scoring to bring the score back level to 2-2, before Sunderland scored on a man up with one second to go in the first period to make it 2-3.
In the second period we lost another goal on man down before Hazel pulled one back to make it 3-4. In the last second a penalty gave Sunderland a 3-5 winning margin. Alison and Abby had shown their experience and defensive skills in this match.
The second game was against a much stronger physical side from Rotherham that went 4-0 up in the first period. Hazel pulled one back before three further goals gave a final score of 7-1.
In the final game Warrington were against a full squad from Sedgefield. Whilst they quickly went 4-0 up an excellent penalty from Emma and two goals from Hazel brought the score back to 5-3 early in the second half.
After two further goals from Sedgefield, Katie scored to round off an excellent performance and bring the score to 7-4. A final man down goal gave a final score of 8-4.
Whilst Tania was kept busy in goal all afternoon, her confidence and saves improved with each game.
Overall an enjoyable set of games to watch and excellent performance all round and great support from enthusiastic parents on the balcony- well done to everyone and looking forward to the next round of matches at the end of June
