Senior L&D. Warrington 13 - 7 Chester

Warrington senior team continued their season with another impressive win. This was a close match last year and Warrington expected a tough, physical game. The team were fired up for the first quater attacking the deep end, as they did not want a slow start like the Southport game. It was this strong first quarter that set Warrington up for the win. Some impressive pit attacking from Tom Hadley and Addison Brown saw them score 3 and 2 goals each respectively. The returning Samir Tahraoui also chipped in with two goals from outside 5 metres. Also impressive was Warrington converting 2 out of 2 ‘man up’ situations. First quarter 7 - 2 to Warrington. The second quarter was a much closer affair as Warrington concentrated on tightening up the defense in the deep end with some excellent team defense and especially from Andy Burke and David Price. End of the 2nd quarter it was 10 - 4 to Warrington. With the game fairly safe Warrington swapped goalie with Peter Burke coming out of goals for Neil Musgrove. The younger players in the squad showed growing confidence in the water and on the ball. Both Tom Costello and Tim Mainwaring are improving with every game. The third quarter saw a stop in play after an accidental kick to the head from Paul Daintith left a Chester player a little dazed. Paul and the team hope he is ok. The middle of the third also saw James Barker break free down the left and one on one with the keeper about 2 metres out James dummied the shot about 15 times before slamming the ball so far wide I believe it went off the side of the pool not even the end? Miss of the century? A shout of “stick to goalie” was aimed at the GB junior keeper from the crowd. Thankfully James attoned for this error with an excellent goal in the top corner later in the quarter. Much more like it. The third quarter finished 13 - 5 to Warrington. The last quarter saw 3 exclusions for Warrington plus a wrapping up for Tom Costello as he lashed out in disgust at a referee decision and accidentally slapped another player in the face. Obviously not intentional but you have got to keep your cool in this game, a lesson for the young man there. Warrington lost the last quarter 0 - 2 but by then the game was already won. A great game again and impressive win. Great to see Rafik Tahraoui back in the water too. Next up Port Sunlight in two weeks.
