M&D 12 & under tournament - Orford Park

Team Left to right Eleanor Brear, Emily Ireland, Katie Bowater, Brett Takemoto, (front) Zac Williams and Marcus WoodsWarrington ever improving 12 & under team took part in the first ever water polo tournament held at Orford Park. Playng across two pitches 5 teams took part and Warrington finished equal 3rd position.

Warrington in their final game played Royton in the final match which was a good test as we played them in the first game of the season in May and were beaten 11-2. In this game Warrington showed how much they have improved when they were narrowly beaten 3-2 by the same team and had plenty of chances to win the game. If they had they would have finished 2nd.Congratualtions to Tyldesley for winning the competition.

Well done to all the children involved and to the coaching team of Coutney Dean, Tom Costello and Su Bowater. My thanks also to all the parents who helped make the competition a great success. Nigel Dailey and Fiona Dean on the table, Sam Williams selling programmes Dave Williams coordinating the tables and of course our fantastic announcer Mr Woods who did a great job at very short notice. Finally I must thank Su and Mark Bowater for moving the goals from Sankey to Orford Park and back, a time consuming and tricky process.

We look to hold their own tournament in the autumn with a similar format. The idea of the forth coming ‘Festivals’ is to play low key games where officials not neccessarily qualified can practice being table official, referees and coaches. Also players normally too young ie under 10 will be allowed to play. A series of water polo festivals will take place over the coming months for children 12 & under over the next few months
