Southport 3 Warrington 16 (Snr)

Warrington visited Southport in the Liverpool & District League. With Tom Hadley and James Williams just back from International duty Warrington had a strong ten man team. Warrington started well as they attacked the shallow end with a goal from Matt Webber. However Southport pulled one back. Then Tom ‘the hammer’ Hadley showed his class with an excellent goal to make it 1-2. Southport then had a player excluded and Warrington converted the man up another goal from Tom Hadley. James ‘the under-graduate’ Williams rounded off a good quarter with Warrington’s fourth goal to make it 1-4.

In the second quarter Tom Hadley continued to score at will on the counter attack as did James Williams. Peter Burke then hit a rich vein of form with three goals in four and a half minutes; Tom Hadley added his fourth of the game as Warrington went on the rampage and ended the first half 1-10 ahead.

The third quarter we rotated players around the get the junior players involved. A less eventful quarter as Warrington attacked a very shallow end. My moment of the match was to see Tom Costello (15 years) marking a huge Southport player and Tom defending defiantly. Sam Cooper did some excellent work in defence and supported the counter attacks well. However Warrington’s goals came from Connor Dean and Matt Webber and Southport pulled a goal back, the third quarter finished 2-12.

In the fourth quarter Tom Hadley and James Williams were rested but Warrington continued to score with goals from Connor Dean, Matt Webber and just as James jumped back in he managed to get his hat trick goal. Paul Daintith shot powerfully from 5 metres to score Warrington 16th goal.

In the dying second’s Southport scored to make the final score 3-16. It was a confident performance by Warrington.

Warrington’s Team included Andrew Burke (3), Sam Cooper, Tom Hadley (4), James Williams (3), Dave Price (1), Connor Dean (1), Ian Musgrove, Tom Costello, Matt Webber(3) and Paul Daintith (1).
